Medical weight loss: Why choose us?

At the Bariatric and Metabolic Institute, we’re committed to help you achieve your health and weight loss goals. When you choose our bariatric program, you can expect:

  • Personalized care: Excess weight due to obesity puts you at increased risk for serious health issues, from diabetes to heart disease. A physician will perform a thorough medical evaluation to get a full picture of your health challenges. We then work with you to tailor weight loss recommendations around your health, goals, and lifestyle.
  • Full range of weight loss aids: Our physicians help patients lose weight using the most effective weight loss tools available today. Medication, meal replacements and more: We’ll detail your treatment options and help you decide what’s best for you.
  • Focus on your whole health: Everyone faces different obstacles to weight loss. Our team includes nutrition professionals and behavioral health specialists who address factors that affect how and what you eat – and how they impact your whole health.

Medical weight loss services

We offer a wide range of medical bariatric treatments, tailored to your needs and weight loss goals.

Weight loss medication

Different types of medications (sometimes called weight loss pills) can help you lose weight by curbing your appetite or balancing your blood sugar levels. Our specialists can prescribe various medications that work together with diet and exercise changes. Medication may be recommended on a short- or long-term basis.

Meal replacements (weight loss shakes)

Your physician may recommend HMR (Health Management Resources), a meal replacement program where you eat specific foods (such as protein shakes) on a structured meal schedule. Patients on the HMR program meet regularly with an in-person support group. At these meetings, you get to hear from people who face similar challenges while you learn how to live a healthier lifestyle.

Your physician will perform a medical screening to determine which type of HMR diet is best for you. Patients generally don't need medical supervision for this diet unless you take diabetes medication. We are one of the only bariatric centers in Pennsylvania that offers this option.

Nutrition guidance

Our nutrition professionals work one-on-one with you to teach you the basics of a healthy diet. We’ll give you guidance and tips to help you make sustainable changes to your diet and exercise habits.

Behavioral health counseling

Is emotional eating getting in the way of you reaching your goals? Our psychologists can help you identify and manage emotional factors that may be stunting your progress.
