Lives are transformed by organ donations.
A heart transplant allowed one woman to become a motivational speaker. An energetic boy is riding a bike and playing soccer after receiving a liver transplant at 4 months old. A young man’s new kidney let him live to be a husband and a father.
These lives were made possible by other people who gave the powerful gift of organ donation. One organ donor can save up to eight lives. Last year, organ donors made more than 28,000 transplants possible.
And yet, more than 120,000 people die every year – 22 people each day – waiting for a donor organ that never comes. In the area served by Allegheny Health Network, more than 2,500 people are currently waiting for organ transplants and thousands more are in need of tissue or cornea transplants. Unfortunately, in our local area, two people die every day while awaiting a donor organ.
We have the power to change that. Learn how.
