About Allegheny General Hospital

Standing tall in Pittsburgh’s North Side, the glowing tower of Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) has become recognized as a place of medical excellence. Inside the hospital's South Tower, the founders etched into a stone wall, "Erected for the benefit of mankind to save life, relieve suffering, and conserve health."

Allegheny General has lived up to that promise through its longstanding commitment to researching cures, advancing medicine, educating future physicians and restoring good health.

Although we take pride in our history, we consistently strive for even greater heights and work to improve our focused, personalized patient care. Our forward-thinking philosophy is evident in our extensive medical discoveries, innovative technology, modern patient amenities, and state-of-the-art surgical suites.

We have been fortunate to build a reputation for scientific advances and medical research because of our greatest asset – our people. The talented men and women who fill Allegheny General's ORs, labs, offices, and hospital rooms are committed to giving our patients compassionate, respectful, and first-rate care in a place where they feel safe and comfortable.

They know the reason they are here, day in and day out, is for you, our patients. And they will continue to carry out this mission and honor the goals that were etched in the hospital's stone more than a century ago.
