West Penn Burn Center is the only facility of its kind in the region with verification from the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons for the treatment of both pediatric and adult patients.
By earning this distinction 6 times, we have demonstrated our ability to provide compassionate, specialized, high-quality care centered on each individual patient. Our West Penn Burn Center team, led by Ariel Aballay MD, shares the focus and the commitment on one main goal. That goal is to ensure the best possible outcomes, both functionally and cosmetically, for our patients and to do so as quickly as possible without compromising high quality care.
- Patients are triaged by burn specialists and admitted directly to the Burn Center, bypassing the emergency room for faster, more efficient care
- Specialized pediatric treatment and psychosocial programs help children to recover from debilitating burn injuries, both physically and psychologically
- Patients with burns, soft tissue disorders and other non-healing wounds receive care from specialists who provide the latest surgical techniques, skin treatment procedures and products
West Penn Burn Center not only deals with the immediate crisis of burn injuries, but also the important emotional and psychosocial dynamics involved in the rehabilitation and return to the community for each and every patient. We have developed many supporting programs to help in making that restoration possible.
Our nursing staff is exceptionally proud to have achieved Magnet re-designation status in September 2012 by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This prestigious designation recognizes excellence in nursing services. West Penn Hospital was the first hospital in the region to achieve this internationally recognized distinction for quality patient care and outcomes. Today we are “two proud”.
West Penn Hospital has been lauded as a high-performing medical center across multiple clinical specialties in the latest ranking of the country’s best hospitals by U.S. News and World Report.
