Fast action from EMS

When EMS teams arrive on scene, they work quickly to evaluate the patient and provide care right away — even before reaching the emergency department. EMS can also arrange for helicopter transport, called LifeFlight, if someone is far away from a hospital and needs emergency care quickly.

On average, trauma patients stay in the hospital for about five days, but some may need more time. After a patient leaves the hospital, the team at AHN Forbes Trauma Clinic provides follow-up care, which may include:

• Referrals to physical therapy and rehabilitation services
• Help managing medication or ongoing care
• Support groups for trauma survivors

The Forbes Trauma Center provides specialized support services for your physical, emotional, and mental health during trauma recovery.

Behavioral health specialists and trauma social workers can help with anxiety, stress, or other complex mental health conditions — like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) — that often result from traumatic events.

For women and pregnant patients, Forbes Trauma Center is the only center in western Pennsylvania with in-house OB-GYN services available 24/7.
