Psychiatry and mental health services at Jefferson Hospital: Why choose us?

Jefferson Inpatient Psychiatry and Counseling Services are part of the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Institute. We offer comprehensive mental health services, tailored to individuals’ needs including:

  • Inpatient services: Our adult behavioral health unit offers therapies for severe depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and other serious conditions. Services include medication management, occupational therapy, and group psychotherapy. We’re experts in the treatments of severe depression, bipolar disorder, and psychosis.     • Jefferson Behavioral Health Unit visiting hours
      You may visit a loved one in our inpatient unit during certain times:
      Monday – Friday: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
      Weekends and holidays: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM   
    • Be aware that Jefferson Hospital does not have a child or adolescent inpatient unit. Children and adolescents evaluated in our ER who need inpatient admission will be transferred to hospitals who do provide this service.
  • Jefferson Hospital Behavioral Health Outpatient Services, located at 810 Clairton Blvd offers a wide range of individual and group behavioral health therapies and services: 
    • Individual services include medication management, psychiatric evaluations, child, adolescent, and adult individual and group outpatient therapy.  
    • Individual outpatient therapy for children, adolescents and adults are provided for mood and personality disorders such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, bi-polar disorder, borderline personality disorder, as well as trauma and PTSD (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR available) and related to behavioral health issues that impact daily living and relationships.
  • Group therapy is provided through our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). IOP programs welcome and work with a wide range of mood and personality disorders, including safety concerns such as suicidal ideation, passive death wish and self-harm. A referral from a  medical/therapeutic provider is preferred but self-referrals are also welcomed. A preliminary 90 minute assessment is necessary in order to confirm that IPO level of care is appropriate.  
    • Adult IOP takes place virtually on Mon, Wed, and Fri 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM. Adolescent IOP takes place virtually Mon, Tues, and Thurs 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM.
