AHN Appoints Kelly Kassab, MHA, as COO of Jefferson and Canonsburg Hospitals

JEFFERSON HILLS, Pa (Sept. 3,2020) – Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has appointed Kelly Kassab, MHA, as the chief operating officer (COO) of Canonsburg and Jefferson hospitals. In her new role, Kassab will work alongside hospital leadership to help ensure the delivery of high-quality health care services to patients living in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Lower Mon Valley, Washington County and surrounding areas.

Kassab joined AHN as vice president of physician services at Jefferson Hospital in 2016. When the leadership teams of Jefferson and Canonsburg merged, Kassab assumed the role of vice president of operations, serving both hospitals. As COO, she will work closely with Chong Park, MD, president, Joy Peters, DNP, chief nursing officer (CNO) and John Smith, chief financial officer of Jefferson and Canonsburg Hospitals respectively.

“Kelly is an accomplished clinician and health care executive who has a wealth of experience in both  patient care and hospital operations,” said Dr. Park. “Most importantly, she is a fierce advocate for our  caregivers and the patients and families who rely on Jefferson and Canonsburg for their health care needs.”

A radiation therapist by training, Kelly received her clinical certifications at the Aliquippa School of Radiologic Technology, and the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center’s School of Radiation Oncology Technology. She earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration and a Master of Health Administration through the University of North Carolina.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside Kelly during her tenure. Throughout the last five years in particular, Highmark Health’s investment in our facilities and programs has been a catalyst for positive growth and momentum. Kelly has been instrumental in navigating this growth and ensuring the necessary resources are in place to mobilize and make our vision a reality for patients, employees and the communities we serve,” said Joy Peters, DNP, CNO at AHN Jefferson and AHN Canonsburg.

As part of its transformation since affiliating with AHN in 2014, Jefferson has opened a new cancer center, a new obstetrical program and a newly expanded, state-of-the-art emergency department, among other significant capital and programmatic investments. Canonsburg too has added programs in recent years, including cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation and an advanced women’s imaging center, among other services.

“It’s truly an honor to have the opportunity to help further advance the legacy of outstanding care and community service that has distinguished these hospitals since their founding,” said Kassab. “I look forward to working with the thousands of dedicated caregivers who help fulfill that promise every day and serving the patients of these areas who entrust us with their care.”

Kassab is a member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and participates in Leadership Pittsburgh’s Leadership Development Initiative IX and Deloitte’s Board Ready Women program. This fall, she will join the board of directors of LifeSpan, Inc. and is also the founder of Jefferson’s Employee Caregiver Support Group, through which employees meet to discuss the challenges of caregiving both at work and in their personal lives. She is a long-time resident of Jefferson Hills.
