AHN Infection Prevention Program

Infection Prevention uses scientifically based practices and team collaboration to promote quality care and a safe environment for our patients, visitors, and health care workers.

The Infection Prevention Division at AHN specializes in preventing the spread of infections within our hospitals and offices. The Infection Prevention Division:

  • Creates policies and procedures based on scientific practices
  • Educates health care workers and the public about infectious diseases and how to limit their spread
  • Collects and studies data to monitor the trend of infections and to implement improvement interventions

One of the most common hospital-acquired infections is a Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI). Catheters are used frequently in a hospital setting, and prolonged use of a catheter can lead to urinary tract infections.

To prevent CAUTIs and reduce unnecessary catheter use, AHN established a CAUTI Collaborative workgroup. This group focuses on team-focused training and standardization of practices and equipment, and shares best practices across AHN.

Our hospitals’ CAUTI rates are publicly reported through the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) site.
