New Allegheny Health Network Urgent Care Center Brings Neighborhood Healthcare Services Back to Braddock
Monday, January 5, 2015
BRADDOCK, Pa. – Representatives of Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network (AHN) today joined borough and county officials in Braddock to celebrate the opening of AHN’s new Braddock Urgent Care Center and the return of close-to-home healthcare services in the community for the first time in five years.
Located at 501 Braddock Avenue, AHN’s Urgent Care Center opens to the public at noon today and will offer both adults and children quick, convenient and expert medical attention for minor ailments and injuries. Patients visiting the Braddock Urgent Care Center who require more specialized services will be offered transport to local hospitals.
The Braddock Urgent Care Center is a state-of-the-art facility staffed by board certified physicians and physician extenders and equipped with 12 patient exam rooms, diagnostic capabilities such as X-Ray imaging and blood work, and a spacious waiting area. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. No appointment is necessary and free parking is available.
“The people of Braddock and their dedicated elected leaders have never stopped believing in this town and we believe in it as well,” said John Paul, president and chief executive officer of Allegheny Health Network. “As a charitable organization, we are extremely proud and happy to help meet the healthcare needs of this community and further improve the quality of life for those who live here.”
“Since the closing of the former hospital in early 2010, borough residents have had to travel as far away as McKeesport or the city of Pittsburgh for their urgent care needs,” added Deborah Rice-Johnson, president of Highmark Inc. “The Braddock Urgent Care Center will fill a major gap in health care services for residents of the borough and surrounding communities."
Leading the AHN medical team at Braddock Urgent Care Center are Mitchel McCandlish, MD, Medical Director; William Johnjulio, MD, System Chair, Department of Family Medicine, and Thomas Campbell, MD, Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine
A partnership among Allegheny Health Network, Highmark Health, Trek Development, Allegheny County, the borough of Braddock and state Rep. Paul Costa, D-34, made the AHN Urgent Care Center possible. Rep. Costa’s office was the first tenant in the building housing the Urgent Care Center, a contemporary-style structure built by Trek on the site of the former hospital parking lot.
The Urgent Care Center is part of a $20.3 million redevelopment project that includes 30,000 square feet of office and retail space, 24 units of rental housing, 11 single family homes and a 20,000 square-foot community park.
“This is a great day for the citizens of Braddock, and we thank everyone who worked so hard to make it possible,” Mayor John Fetterman said. “The signs of revitalization are all around us, and we believe this new Urgent Care Center will spark even more development in our borough.”
“When the private sector, non-profits, government and communities work together, great things can happen,” said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. “This urgent care center is a perfect example of stakeholders working together to benefit the community.”
