Primary Care

One of the most important things you can do for your health and the health of your family is to have a primary care physician (PCP). These expert caregivers oversee your health care, diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, providing routine health screenings and counseling on lifestyle changes in an effort to prevent illnesses before they develop. When a more serious health condition develops, your PCP can refer you to a specialist. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, people with PCPs live longer, healthier lives and experience fewer hospitalizations for preventable health conditions.

The Allegheny Health Network provides the highest level of comprehensive family-centered primary care throughout the communities it serves. Each of our system hospitals features a network of PCPs who are specially trained and certified to provide the region’s best primary care from infancy through the golden years.

There is a PCP for every stage of life. A pediatrician provides specialized care for children from infancy through the teen years. A family physician provides care for infants, children and adults and some family doctors offer obstetric and gynecological care. Internists provide non-surgical care for patients of all ages who have illnesses involving the internal organs.

If you are looking for a primary care physician, you've come to the right place. You can search for a doctor in your area anytime using our find-a-doctor tool. Or, if you prefer, an AHN representative can help you find the primary care physician that is right for you by phone. • Does the physician accept your health insurance plan?
  • Who replaces the physician when he or she is unavailable?
