If you are undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery, you may have many questions about the procedure and recovery. Our dedicated team of surgeons and surgical nurses want you to be prepared and informed before your surgery. At our Joint Camp, you’ll get all the information you need so you can feel confident about your care.

Joint Camp at Allegheny Valley Hospital

You and your family want to know what to expect during the hospitalization and rehabilitation. Our Joint Camp helps your surgical experience be as smooth and pleasant as possible.

The Joint Replacement Program Team offers this service free of charge. With a maximum of five people in “camp” together, you get the personal attention and time you need.

What to expect at Joint Camp

Here’s what you need to know about our Joint Camp:

  • Who’s invited? We invite you and a loved one to join us.
  • When is it? Classes occur every other Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
  • What happens? We complete the necessary pre-surgical blood work at the beginning of the class. We also offer cardiograms, chest X-rays, and initial physical and occupational therapy visits immediately following the session.
  • Is there food? We serve a continental breakfast.
  • What topics will we cover? Topics include:
    • The joint replacement procedure
    • How to prepare for surgery
    • Anesthesia evaluation
    • The recovery process
    • Pain management
    • Physical and occupational therapy
    • Follow-up care
