This course is designed to educate the attendee’s on the difference between Welcome to Medicare and Annual Wellness Visits (Initial and Subsequent) requirements that are needed for each program. Review of documentation that is required and the associated ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 codes which are necessary for appropriate reimbursement. Suggestions on office work flow and empowering your team with discussion on what information they will need to communicate to your patients. Review of templates located in Allscripts and where to locate necessary forms if you are a paper practice. Documentation with confidence to assure a successful audit outcome in the future, should your practice experience an audit. Know who can perform these AWV’s and be familiar with the definition by Center for Medicare Services (CMS) on Direct Supervision. Discussion of real life examples pertaining to AWV’s and Welcome to Care billing requirements.

  • Knowledge of difference between Welcome to Medicare and Annual Wellness Visits (AWV).
  • Time requirements on Welcome to Medicare and Annual Wellness Visits (Initial) and when to assign AWV (Subsequent) time line.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of what code to submit for appropriate billing codes.
  • Understand when to bill for an Evaluation and Management visit along with AWV based on medical necessity.
