Quality community care

Jefferson Hospital is a modern, 341-bed facility located 13 miles south of Pittsburgh. We are deeply committed to providing residents of South Hills communities with superior medical care in a location close to home.

We offer a complete range of healthcare services including emergency treatment, diagnostic testing, medical and surgical treatment, inpatient and outpatient care, laboratory and pathology work. Our services also include comprehensive care programs for cancer care, heart and lung care, behavioral health care, and rehabilitation programs.

These patient care programs are delivered by a medical staff of more than 400 physicians, supported in their efforts by experienced nursing teams. Primary nursing has been an important part of our approach to care since our inception. We feature several skilled nursing units where nurses work directly with physicians to develop a personalized plan for patients recovering from illness.

Most importantly, many of the physicians, nurses, and administrative staff of Jefferson Hospital share something very important with our patients: a sense of community. Because many of our employees call the South Hills home, they have a personal dedication to providing their neighbors with the highest quality medical care.

History

Jefferson Hospital's roots date back to turn of the 20th century with the founding of Homestead and St. Joseph's hospitals. Since then, Jefferson has become one of the most successful community-based health care providers in southwestern Pennsylvania.

By the early 1970's, the boards of directors of Homestead and St. Joseph's hospitals recognized an opportunity to provide more comprehensive health care services to the rapidly growing southern suburban communities of Pittsburgh. In 1973, the two hospitals consolidated to form South Hills Health System, which eventually underwent a name change to Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

In 2013, the board of directors, once again recognized an opportunity to expand Jefferson's service offerings and better serve the needs of those living in the South Hills communities by partnering with Highmark and becoming part of the Allegheny Health Network as Jefferson Hospital.

Today Jefferson is an important part of the South Hills landscape and continues to provide award-winning, patient-centered care.
